- Vi Hart's Big Navier-Stokes Post - "LLMs get better at finding the correlations between informal math and formal math language as it gets more examples from people. The results coming out of the big AI companies prove not that the AI is smart but that smart people have made a LOT of examples for the AI to do AI math to.
For a cutting-edge proof, something unlike what an LLM has seen before, an LLM will struggle. But it can still work if people are willing to cut the problem into pieces and work to develop the area step by step, as happened with Navier-Stokes. Working with AI in this way is a specific expertise that it could be useful for some people to develop, in theory, if the whole industry weren't terrible."
